More information is never posted on the Chromecast site.
I didn't know the Chromecast devices get updates and/or need them. I got mine in the Google Play store last year. I thought they just act like a USB to cast our device's activity. Do you plug them into a USB port on your computer (ie-my new HP Chromebook) and let it update via the web? Thanks! ~Patrick J. Steed
Patrick, your Chromecast is already on the web; that is how it is able to play Youtube, Hulu, etc. It will automatically update itself.
Patrick, the Chromecast gets connected to your wifi, so any other device on your wifi can 'cast' stuff onto the Chromecast.
Please allow us to set audio preferences for apps.. Netflix tries to use Dolby Digital Plus and it sounds like a poorly compressed MP3. I want to be able to tell it just regular DD 5.1!
Netflix doesn't do regular DD 5.1, only DD+.But I would like to set the Netflix audio quality separate from what Chromecast thinks my home setup is. f.e. my HDTV can pass through DD+ 5.1 audio to my receiver but since Chromecast is pluged in to my TV which has no 5.1 I can only select Stereo in Netflix, even though I could just pass it through but it doesn't give me the option to select the 5.1 Stream.
Is there a way to force an update? My Chromecast won't be used for a few weeks so will it miss the 'normal' rollout?
DD+ has 10x the bitrate of DD. It should sound significantly better. It does to me. Of course your equipment needs to support DD+
My biggest issue is that the output resolution of the device is not adjustable (at least not that I've found). I have my chromecast plugged into a receiver that registers its port as capable of 1080p....however the tv that I have everything hooked to maxes out at 1080i (and I've tried finding a solution to have to port report differently...no dice)....rendering the picture on the chromecast as a black screen. Any help in this department would be awesome.
Is google gonna update to allow streaming of different video formats? Such as flv
Hi I got mine yesterday and just got all updated. But, did anyone ever get a smurf voice on the audio?? I don't know if it could be the compatibility of my router (UK virgin media) or there is a defect on the chromecast... any ideas?thx!
I like my chromecast, but the whole point of it for me is that it is a portable way to watch streams while on the go (hotel, vacation, etc.) I am trying to do that but now this crash with Netflix is occurring. This is incredibly terrible timing. Please push update ASAP.
Fellow Cast-ians...I purchased Chromecast which works perfectly plugged into the TV, as it should but cannot reap the full benefits of the HDMI inputs from my AV AMP...has anyone managed to fathom this dark art?
Try and avoid this update, it adds much stricker region locking to the device. Used to be able to be able to stream the US Netflix in the UK on it and now it is not allowing it. Was one of the reasons I bought the device, probably going to take it back and get a refund.
Google Chromecast Digital HD Media Streamer Review: http://ourquickreview.blogspot.ca/2014/04/google-chromecast-digital-hd-media.html
I was hoping for AC3 audio support in a future Chromecast update - is there an official reason (e.g. licensing costs?) why the Chromecast doesn't support this. Having to transcode audio via a media server (e.g. Plex) is a waste of resources, especially when every other media player I have can handle AC3 audio natively.
I hope that a future update will bring native refresh rate switching, so that 24p movies from google play or YouTube clips will not end in a judder fest which the 60hz HDMI output creates..It is also an issue in Europe where 25 or 50 fps are commonly used. Please give us at least an option to choose the HDMI mode, or better create an API so that Apps can set the rate.
Where can I find this update because I never got it. My chromecast is not being recognized by my MAC
I've been waiting a week for this update, or any kind of solution that will fix the fact that my Chromecast can no longer cast Netflix from ANY of my devices. The last buggy update should've never been pushed out; it causes an entire app, and the most popular one (Netflix) unusable with the Chromecast.
I have not received an update for my chromecast either and it won't cast anything from my computer. Very disappointed.
I am in the same boat, been trying to cast Netflix from my tablet but no dice, stays at the "play shows on your TV using your phone, tablet or PC... Non work. :( this sucks!
I too cannot get mine to Update. Why can't we just have an Update button in the App to manually update?
For everyone not receiving the update, it's very possible that a bug was caught after go-live of production code and they have stopped the update from rolling out further. Chromecast is still considered a beta product, and so is the firmware running on it.I've tried forced updating myself but no dice, however, I'm not worried about it because I haven't had any issues. It's only been getting better for me.Also, people that want to stream FLV files (or any other format not supported by Chromecast) and have Plex Media Server - you can open the Plex Media Manager in Chrome, than Chromecast that tab/page and pick any movie you like to play. It may not be the ideal solution or best experience but it's worked fairly well for me with 1080P movies over WiFi.
@ The Chromecast team. It is 4/17 and more than one week from the 4/8 release that the update would be rolled out over the next week has past. I have not received the update (and from the messages preceding this one, it ounds like others have not either). I cannot stream Netflix which is the only purpose I use this device for. I understand that problems sometimes take longer to resolve than anticipated. But please communicate a new timetable if that is case, or let us know why our chromecasts have not updated if they should have done so. A manual update would be appreciated as a solution to our problem.Thank you.
I'm using Chromecast to watch a game live via mlb.tv and it jumps back about 10 seconds at least twice an inning.
